Ensembles
Viva Voce will be expanding to four choir ensembles for the 2019-2020 season! Let us help you find a great fit for your young singer to experience the joy of choral singing!
Brio (BREE-oh, an Italian musical term meaning “with energy or spirit”) has auditions open to singers who will be in grades 2-4 for the 2019-20 school year. This choir is a great fit for those with little to no choir experience. Being part of this beginning level ensemble helps children sing in their natural head voice, improve their pitch matching skills, express themselves freely and have fun through singing games. These singers will get an introduction to using the music score, singing with solfege and hand signs, basic music theory and music literacy, proper breathing and tone production, and many other critical skills involved in being a great choral singer.
Amabile (ah-MAH-bee-lay, an Italian musical term meaning “lovely”) has auditions open to singers who will be in grades 3-6 for the 2019-20 school year. This choir is a great fit for those who already sing in their head voice and match pitch well. Being part of Amabile exposes children to beginning harmony singing and helps singers develop more comfort using the music score, solfege and hand signs, music theory and music literacy, proper breathing and tone production, and many other choral skills.
Cantabella (CAHN-tah-BEH-lah, a combination of Italian words meaning “sing” and “beautiful”) has auditions open to singers who will be in grades 5-8 for the 2019-20 school year. This choir is a great fit for those with some choir/music experience. Singers who audition for Cantabella should have strong ability to match pitch, healthy tone production, and an ability to sing beginning-level harmony. Cantabella members will be given the opportunity to perform a variety of music styles at an advanced intermediate level.
Our new ensemble Volare (voh-LAH-ray, Italian word meaning “to soar”) has auditions open to singers who will be in grades 7-10 for the 2019-20 school year. This choir is a great fit for singers with at least one year of choir experience. Singers who audition for Volare should have advanced ability to match pitch, beginning knowledge of music theory and literacy, healthy tone production, and an ability to sing harmony. Volare members will be given the opportunity to perform a variety of music styles at an advanced level.
